Dual-core performance change on battery

Is it possible to change the performance of my dual-core on battery so i can get more time out of it?
Or is this no possibility in ubuntu.

Hp pavilion dv2000 with an Amd Turion 64 X2

I believe ubuntu does this by default when the processor supports it. You can "cat /proc/cpuinfo" to see the frequency your cores are running at any time. It automatically scales for my Intel Core2Duo.

Yes, mine scales too, but to save battery power , can i set the speed on half?

This post talks about manual cpu frequency scaling, and one of the comments tells how it could be done on a laptop. I havent tried it out yest, though, so I cant say anything about it.
