When is someone going to update the Wiki so it has the tiniest shred of relevance for KUbuntu users

Asked by Roland Hughes

Launchpad, adding insult to injury, throws users to the wiki when they click on "Report a Bug". The wiki:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs

isn't even remotely usable by a KUbuntu user.

You can use:

ubuntu-bug <package name>

as the site says.

You can also click help -> report problem on X based apps as the guide says. You will need to use the quivelent of system monitor for the PID, or you can use 'ps -ef | grep <program>'

It is a wiki so you should be able to edit it, or log a bug and somebody else will.

You are making the grand assumption the boot process got far enough to run the
GUI. I was having to file a report from a windows machine because I'm trapped
in console mode on my Karmic machine.

All this did was stop all meaningful critical bug reports from getting filed.
It is the equivalent of when Microsoft declared they would eliminate all UAE's
from the "next release of Windows" when all they did was rename the error
routine to General Protection Fault.

This mornings round of updates ensured I couldn't get enough of a system
running to check email. I had to boot from a Windows notebook I rarely use to
attempt filing the bug report.

The way to reduce bug reports is to screen developers and "package
maintainers" so that only qualified developers hold those positions, thus
reducing the number of bugs released.

So far, _after_ the flare went up stating no major changes or untested turns, I
have received two rounds of updates which left my machine unusable. This is
more than when "Wild West" rules were in play.

Linux comes with no SLA and no garuntees. So unfortunately it is the nature of the beast

Thanks for reporting this problem.

Jeremy Lacroix has added a link to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for KDE users: https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Kubuntu/Bugs/Reporting

Cheers!
