Computer manufacturers often provide recovery CD/DVD in addition to recovery HDD partition. If you have such CD/DVD maybe you could use it. You can also check if during the boot process there is an option to enter system recovery or something similar. Maybe if you could provide the brand and model number of your computer I could help you better.

Let's say you can't use the previous suggestions. Maybe you can still recover your Vista. If you chose the automatic partitioning scheme during the Ubuntu install, you should be fine because the partitioner have shrank one of your partitions and you can probably boot on the recovery partition. To do that, you can hit "Esc" at the grub menu and see if there is a choice that suggests to boot on something else than Ubuntu and memtest. If yes, try all entries and maybe one of those will be you're recovery partition.

If you seen no other entry in the grub menu you still have chances to regain access to your recovery partition but that will need further explanations (just ask, I'll be please to help).

Good luck
