After ubuntu install, the cooling fan keeps going.

Asked by hed

have installed ubuntu 8.04 on a desktop with 256mgs of ram. The system works well but the cooling fan goes full blast all the time. Is there any setting that I should go to to return this to normal?

Can you provide the make and model of the desktop if it is a branded thing. If not we will need to dig deeper.

It is a PCV_RX550.

The fan worked fine with Windows XP just prior to installing ubuntu 8.04.

I would suggest you to try to update your BIOS to the latest version available.
If it doesn't fix the problem you should see if it's fixed in a later version of Ubuntu (ex : Jaunty 9.04) by using the liveCD.

Can you help with this problem?
