Empathy IM doesn't show the correct status in the notification area

Here's my uname -a output, I'm using Karmic Alpha 6:
Linux T61 2.6.31-10-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 16 01:09:15 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The new IM Empathy is great but the status cannot be updated correctly in the notification area. It always shows invisible (meaning I'm online but my friends cannot see me, sorry I don't know what exactly is the terminology) in the notification area, no matter which status I have already changed to.

Reproduce steps:
1. Choose Empathy IM from Application -> Internet
2. Change the status to Online.
3. The status in the notification area should be switched to Online, but actually it remains invisible.

I can't find the bug report but this was fixed in the most recent updates over the last couple of days.

Can you help with this problem?
