Recommended advice is install XP first. It is very resource hungry and can take over the whole hard drive.

Are you sure that Ubuntu is still there?

Have a look at http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_and_windows_xp_linux_installed_first.htm

Your Windows Xp installation have removed your grub. You will have to boot from a Live CD and restore your Grub.

Boot up with a LiveCD.
Open a terminal (Applications, Accessories, Terminal) and write:

sudo fdisk -l

Replay with the result of the "fdisk -l" command to give you specific instructions.

Can you help with this problem?
