Xorg freezes after fresh Ubuntu Feisty install

Asked by Ionuț Arțăriși

I just reinstalled Ubuntu 7.04 (i used to have an Edgy Eft Kubuntu on the same computer), and now it freezes a little while after gdm starts up. I even got to gnome the first time before it froze, but now it happens too soon.

The Laptop is an MSI M670 MegaBook, but I don't think it's the problem. It used to work ok with the previous Kubuntu, and it's been working perfectly with ArchLinux for half a year now.

My video card is Nvidia, and X seems to load the nv driver (judging by the xorg.conf) I also tried vesa, but it doesn't work at all (the screen just begins to "burn" strange colors, becoming whiter)

Where else should I look for more info? I don't see any errors in dmesg, but here it is: http://pastebin.ca/570556
