driver install

Asked by DexterPC

I'm very new to Ubuntu (linux) but I got the ubuntu9.1 I believe installed on a spare PC and it has no internet at all.
I believe it is no drivers for it.
1) is there a device manager " " for Ubuntu?
2) I downloaded the linux drivers for my motherboard Asus A7N8X and transfered them via usb thumb drive to Ubuntu PC. The files say that are .rpm files, how do I get them installed in Linux

Sorry for the seem to be simple ? but I'm a NOOB.
Thnaks for your support.
Brian

Please tell which driver are you looking for...?

The installed Kernel and the related Kernel modules are the driver for your hardware.

Linux is different from Windows.

1) System -> Drivers -> Hardware , but would not call that a device manager...
2) What are you trying to do? what exactly are you trying to install?

Ubuntu is not a RPM based dist and I'm pretty sure you dont need to download any extra driver for your mainboard.
Now tell us exactly what you are trying to install , what's not working?
The network?

Click Application up on the top left menu
Accessories -> Terminal
In the terminal window type

"lspci | grep -i net" (without the quotes)
Type the output in an answer.

Can you help with this problem?
