iwl3945: slow wlan transfer in karmic alpha 6

Asked by Espen

In Ubuntu Hardy Heron I get about 6Mb/s Internet-connection (what I should have). Running Ubuntu Karmic Koala I get less than 1Mb/s (usually about 700-800kb/s).

The module iwl3945 is being used and the computer is a DELL Latitude d820.

Output from "dmesg | grep -i iwl3945":

[ 80.021081] iwl3945: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG/BG Network Connection driver for Linux, 1.2.26ks

[ 89.059763] iwl3945 0000:0c:00.0: loaded firmware version 15.32.2.9

Any others experiencing the same behaviour? What is causing this and/or what can I do as a remedy to get "normal" speed for my wireless connection?

Cyril: which wlan-router/access point are you using? I have a Linksys WRT54GL.

I don't know. I'm in a hired bedroom with "included" wifi access point. I cannot change it :-(

Came across your question while searching for a discussion on bug #417757. I upgraded an AMD64 laptop from 9.04 to 9.10 a couple of days ago and have had appallingly slow internet connection (both ethernet and wireless) on Firefox and Evolution. I had thought it was connected with a different upgrade problem but was pointed at this bug (#417757 - all network apps / browsers suffer from multi-second delays by default due to IPv6 DNS lookups). It seems pretty widespread.

Can you help with this problem?
