Pidgin works msn in ubuntu all you have to do is add the account.

There are many packages to use as msn client:

Already installed (will be replaced by Emphaty in Ubuntu 9.10) as Shane Fagan answer to you:

pidgin - graphical multi-protocol instant messaging client for X

And if you want try other clients you need to install some of the packages below:

amsn - An MSN messenger written in Tcl
emesene - platform independent MSN Messenger client

jabber - An instant messaging server using the Jabber/XMPP protocol +
jabber-msn - Provides the MSN transport for the Jabber IM server
