how to access internet through wvdial command

I am beginner in this field, I am using ubuntu 8.10. I want to access internet connection by using the wvdial command. Can anyone please tell me how to use this command with its options and arguments.
I also see the manual entry for wvdial, in manual entry there is a file name ~/.wvdialrc, but this file is not present in the ~(home) directory.
I am using the Airtel GPRS connection.

Why are you trying to use wvdial you can use the network manager to do all of that.
