Economics of open Source software

Asked by KiRa

Hi
I am not very sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but I was considering working on a project on the economics of open source software, as in how does the system keep running, how the development costs are covered, and how does the demand and supply(development) of open source software work? I have had Maths till under graduation, yet I cannot figure out the complex models of open source economy when I googled it . I was wondering if anyone could give me a few resources(if possible a simple economic model) to understand and analyse all of it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
