gdm bleibt nach upgrade schwarz

Asked by czil

* Reloading GNOME Display Manager configuration...
* Changes will take effect when all current X sessions have ended.
invoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action "reload" failed.

Hallo,

When I made an upgrade to karmic, it happened that synaptic couldn't solve a problem with the package of "kstars" after a reboot I got a screen whereon the splashscreen of "mythbuntu" (my usual screen) is seen on the top of a black screen about ten times or more. I was not able to do anything, no console or anything else than a reboot with "Alt+Sys Rq + B" . In recoverymode I removed the packages manually with "apt-get" till the upgrade run on. After the upgrade was finished, I got the same. I tried to install the ati-proprietory driver again, so i got a funny screen with little sqares in permantly changing colours. so i removed the driver again, installed kdm and renamed the xorg.conf. Between this actions I tried a lot of options with dpkg-reconfigure gdm and x-server but with no luck. after deletion of xorg.conf kdm started an i can log in in graphic mode again but without gdm. usually I get a message of dbconf to choose the default displaymanager, when I run dpkg-reconfigure gdm or kdm, on my system there is nothing.

At last gdm was updated today, but no reaction on my system. Now I found, that it is possibly not gdm the reason but debconf. when I run this:

earl@earl13:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure -force gdm
[sudo] password for earl:
debconf: kann Frontend nicht initialisieren: Orce
debconf: (Can't locate Debconf/FrontEnd/Orce.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.10.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.10.0 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.10 /usr/share/perl/5.10 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at (eval 22) line 2.)
debconf: greife zurück auf das Frontend: Noninteractive
 * Reloading GNOME Display Manager configuration...
 * Changes will take effect when all current X sessions have ended.
invoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action "reload" failed.

the last tree lines are the "usual" answer when I trie to restart gdm with /etc/init.d/gdm restart

I reinstalled debconf - but what configures debconf?

anybody an idea for me?

thx

apt-get purge gdm
apt-get autoclean
apt-get autoremove
apt-get update

apt-get install gdm
installieren.

Can you help with this problem?
