I cannot use skype with ubuntu 9.04 on my acer aspire 5100

Well I got Ubuntu 9.04 I am doing big efforts to learn as much more as I can about ubuntu, and now I am in a big traouble I installed skype (downloaded the deb package from skype.com) and I cannot do a TestCall it crashes after 40 seconds also I think I have troubles with my mic because I cannot heare anything when I use recording option from ubuntu,
Please help me!!!!!

P.s Any help will be apreciated

Try this:

Click on the down-left corner the Main Menu (looks like blue spot with an S) choose Options and then Sound Devices. Try choosing different devices and after each change click "Make a test sound". I suppose "pulse" should work. After that Make a test sound.
