sudo without command-line

Asked by Souris

May be it's already implemented, I'm very new to Ubuntu... (and english is not my natural language...)

So ...

The goal is to reduce command-line use (to attract users from other systems...).

Very often I open a terminal only for typing 'sudo gedit' and after I open system files for configuring my system.

It would be nice if I can launch a program with superuser rigths by pressing ctrl+alt while clicking on the icon (on the desktop and in the menu).

A right-click can be a possibility too..

Of course the password will be ask to the user ...

May be this possibility should be limited to some programs ...

-------------------

Another idea : if the above is not possible, why not adding a shortcut in the administration menu that will do 'sudo gedit' (and others usefull programs like gedit...). Shortcuts out of the administration menu launch programs in user mode. In the administration menu launch program in superuser mode.

My 2 cents..

Hello,

I see your point, it exists sudo without command line in case of synaptic but you are right a lot of times you have to type sudo in terminal. This option what you request is not made because of security, ubuntu relies on security of Linux that is why a program can not install itself without your concern about it.

Superuser mode gets this security away from you, and a lot of harmful things can happen.

Installing a program without typing sudo in terminal ex sudo dpkg -i openoffice.deb exists from now on in Dapper Drake the next release of ubuntu where you can install a DEB just right clicking on it but it asks your password too to gain rights.

In my opinion you should write a letter to the core developemet team cause Support menu in Launchpad page is for support, and you can not discuss with us these things here because we can not answer, we are simple users like you. :).
So talk to somebody from the Ubuntu Core Developement Team that you can reach here https://launchpad.net/people/ubuntu-core-dev.

Just click on somebody's name and search for it;s email address and write to him. :)

Base on my experienced...you can add application to launcher panel...point your mouse on the panel and right click on the mouse, then choose add panel application, then choose the custom application, there you can type the name of the application and type the corresponding command..

hope this will help...

Thank's...
