When you get booted back to the command line interface, run this command:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Answer the questions which you know the answers to (Such as Video Card, Resolution, etc) and leave the others as defaults. It will allow you to reconfigure the x-server to a point where it will work. Depending on the video card which your computer has, you may need to install some drivers for them as well. There is some information depending on the manufacturer here: http://www.ubuntuguide.org

Hope this helps!

Neolithium, SPARC is a older platform from Sun.

More information on installing Ubuntu on sparc can be found in the package installation-guide-sparc. I think these days most people intend to run SPARC headless, so most of the SPARC expertise is going to be found related to servers, not workstations =(

If you could attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or similar), that would help those with the most experience diagnose the problem.

During the install to give it about 50 GB
it worked fine for a couple days and then today 5/7/07
