Nvidia-Settings does not control GPU FAN on Wayland

Asked by Willian Armond

Dear all, I have an Nvidia card (T600), and I know it works with 570x drivers or higher. One thing is that it is preventing me from using Ubuntu 24.04, which is my preferred system, but because of this error I had to migrate to another one.
There is a PPA repository of drivers (ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa) where all the video drivers that can be installed in Ubuntu versions are located.
Well, I will not focus on old drivers, I will get the most recent ones and present the errors I found.
The drivers for versions 535x, 540x and 545x do not work in the Gnome environment with Wayland. So I went for the drivers 560x, 565x and 570x. With these drivers I can log in to the environment via Wayland. Almost 100% functional, since in these versions I cannot control the fan (GPU fan) in any way this is possible to be done in the system. So, when doing a direct search in the ppa, I identified that the driver that manages this, “nvidia-settings”, does not follow the versions of the main drivers and is stuck on version 510x, indicating that this may be the problem with being able to control the card's fan. Advancing a little further, the nvidia driver in version 575x does not even allow login with Wayland.
Given the explanations, I would like to ask a few questions.
Why are the nvidia-settings drivers not included with the main drivers in each new version? If the system is sold to users as stable and has Wayland as the default, why are Nvidia users forced to use X11 to keep their systems functional? In this regard, it does not seem that Ubuntu is following its own premise of being a user-friendly system. I leave this message here in the hope that there will be a fix as soon as possible that will allow us users to enjoy the hardware we have along with a stable system like Ubuntu 24.04 along with current tools like Wayland.
Thank you for your attention, and if there is a solution already available, please let me know what the procedure is.
Att. Willian

If you are using the NVidia driver package from a PPA, then your question is wrong here.
Questions about software in a PPA have to be directed to the person or group managing that PPA. In your case https://launchpad.net/~graphics-drivers

For the nvidia-settings package:
You might consider creating a bug report for that package, requesting that it gets updated in the Ubuntu repositories.
And you might consider asking the PPA provider, why they don't upgrade the version in their PPA either.
