How to lock screen without turning off screen

Asked by Test

How to lock screen without turning off screen? Please don't suggest screensavers. For example, xscreensaver has a bug and sometimes fails to authenticate the user.

Top Right corner of screen - Power Button / click - Just to the left of the power icon is a
Padlock Icon - Click to lock the screen.
Click the screen to Unlock with password.

Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Screen Lock ->
Blank Screen Delay - Never
Automatic Screen Lock - Switch Off
Lock Screen Notifications - Switch Off
Lock Screen on Suspend - Switch Off or On [should not make a difference]
Now retry the padlock icon to lock the screen.

The result is the same. The screen turns off during screen lock. But if you activate the locked screen after turning it off, it will no longer turn off.

Maybe I should upgrade to your version. My version of Ubuntu is 22.04.1.
Is it possible to make the automatic screen lock independent of the screen being turned off?

Should work on your version. The very first thing I do after installing Ubuntu is:
Settings -> Power -> Power Saving -> Screen Blank - Never
Does a reboot change the change the screen lock variables where the
Ubuntu screen is on when you lock the desktop?
Currently: Ubuntu Jammy 22.04.5 as of 2024-08-29
May I suggest open Terminal [ctl+alt+t]:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
after any updates
sudo snap refresh
sudo reboot
