Booting error post installation process

Asked by Manas Mehta

I was trying to dualboot Ubuntu alongside Windows. But after completition of the installation process, the system should boot into GRUB which is not happening in my case. The installation was successful but then the GRUB never shows up. It directly boots into Windows' default OS.

If you hold left SHIFT on cold boot, do you see GRUB?

No. It directly enters into windows.

All I can suggest is boot to Ubuntu live CD and you can then put GRUB on the disk. You'll need to chroot into the installed OS and work from there.

I have tried that already but it again ends up being the same. The option of Linux Filesystem is seen in the list of disk partitions, but the GRUB never shows up, stopping me from entering into Ubuntu.

What steps did you take? Have you checked the BIOS to check the boot device?

I entered into Ubuntu in a live session. Chroot into the installed Ubuntu. Tried repairing GRUB using the GRUB repair, which didn't work. Then tried installing grub again which didn't work out too. Later I also tried using grub customizer, and it was still the same.

The BIOS doesn't show me an option to enter into Ubuntu. It just shows OS Boot Manager which takes me back to windows.

Can you help with this problem?
