Looking for .config Kernel Configuration file of my Ubuntu

Asked by Maximilian Rager

Hi,
I'm looking for the .config Kernel Configuration file used for compilation of the kernel , with which my 24.04.1 LTS (Noble Numbat) has been compiled.
I tried the extract-ikconfig script and that didnt work.
As far as I now is the /boot/config-6.8.0-45-generic not necessarily the same.
Also I looked for /proc/config.gz and nothing.
Is it anywhere else on the system or do you know where I can download it?

with regards,
Maximilian Rager

The kernel package linux-modules-6.8.0-45-generic provides the file /boot/config-6.8.0-45-generic
Where did you get the information that this config file is not the one used for compiling the kernel?

(Remark: Not a question for "Launchpad itself", but for Ubuntu; moving the question there.)

The .config file is in /usr/src/linux-headers-6.8.0-45-generic
I am not sure if the linux-headers-generic is installed by default

@wa113y3s Is there anywhere an official source which says that its the official config file?

I am not sure where official source would be found but I do compile my own patched kernel modules and that file is the one that is used

If you look at the buildlog of the kernel packages https://launchpadlibrarian.net/746662963/buildlog_ubuntu-noble-amd64.linux_6.8.0-45.45_BUILDING.txt.gz you can see that the config file is copied to /usr/src/linux-headers-6.8.0-45-generic/.config

Can you help with this problem?
