What happens after the testing of Ubuntu 24.10 ends? Will I still receive updates, or will I need to download a new ISO of a different testing version?

Asked by Zhenya

I am currently testing the development version of Ubuntu 24.10 and am curious about the process that occurs once the testing phase concludes. Will I still receive regular updates for this version, or will I need to switch to a new ISO for a different testing release? I want to ensure that I remain up-to-date and continue testing new features without interruption.

A few days after publishing date of Ubuntu 24.10 Oracular Oriole (October 10, 2024), work on the next release (Ubuntu 25.04; codename with "P") will start.

If you are already running a system with Ubuntu 24.10, then this development system will automatically turn into a system with the supported release that receives bug fixes, new kernel version etc.

If you want, you can directly upgrade your 24.10 system to the next development release (as soon as this is made available) by using the command "do-release-upgrade -d". The option -d is for an upgrade to the development release (which will be 25.04 then). No new installation from an ISO necessary.
