7.04 Server boot fails on Dell Inspiron 8600

Asked by TJ

I installed 7.04 Desktop on my Dell Inspiron 8600 and it works flawlessly!
I installed 7.04 Server on another partition of the same disk. The install
went without a hitch. Grub found the previous Desktop installaion, the
new Server installation and offers me to boot either. Desktop boots fine,
as before. Server fails immediately. The only thing visible on the LCD panel is:
INT 14: CR2 c1000000 err 00000002 EIP c03f3c3e CS 00000060 flags 00010006
Stack: 373c0046 ffffffff c0490000 00001800 00000080 00800000 ffffff80

Can someone help me get 7.04 Server working?

Thanks,
TJ O'Donnell

I've got the exact same problem, also on Inspiron 8600, but I'm running (7.04 Server) in a Windows hosted VMWare Player.

This problem started, for me also, trying to boot Server7.04 on a Windows
hosted VMWare Workstation. But in order to rule out VMWare as the
culprit, I installed Server7.04 directly onto a partion of the disk.
The boot still fails. By the way, using a windows hosted Parallels VM
results in exactly the same boot failure of Server7.04

I've got the same problem on a Soltek Qbic with a VIA C3 processor. I installed the 7.04 server from CD and told the installer to use the entire disk - that is no WMWare and no seperate partition.
Any help would be much appreciated
