Kernel version newer than 24.04 with more efficient CPU and power management

Asked by Houri Ziaeepour

Hi

After upgrading to 24.04 LTS few days ago, I am quite disappointed of the extreme power usage of the new kernel, which drains the battery roughly 3 times faster than 22.04 LTS under the same applications. I know that I am not the first user complaining about this problem. I want to know whether there is any newer, probably not LTS release, in which this problem is resolved. If this helps, here is the configuration of my laptop:

Operating System: Kubuntu 24.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.11
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.115.0
Qt Version: 5.15.13
Kernel Version: 6.8.0-41-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 16 × Intel® Core™ i9-9980HK CPU @ 2.40GHz
Memory: 15,4 GiB of RAM

Thanks for the suggestion. I will send a bug report. Meanwhile, there are already several reports about the problem with over-use of CUPs leading to too much power consumption, in 24.04 LTS, for instance: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2067830 . Thus, it would be useful to know if it would be or is solved in newer versions.
