netbeans 6.5 does not install javadb

Asked by Gary Riddell

New to ubuntu, java, netbeans. Installed netbeans 6.5 via add/remove on 9.04 and worked through java tutorials on sun website. Everything OK until database lesson. Instructed to open services window and right click on databases node. However, the services window is empty. Question on sun forum was answered by suggestion that this might be a bug in package download or in netbeans. Help!

You may have installed OpenJDK try install the Sun JDK from add/remove. I never tried database stuff on OpenJDK but it may not be included.

Hope that helps

Netbeans 6.5 install included Sun JDK6, and so far I can do any Java stuff so it must be there - just no DB facilities. There is no separate entry for Sun JDK on Add/Remove.
On Win Vista, the process is (1) download JDK6 (2) download and install netbeans. Everything works OK. Has anyone tried to use JavaDB from Netbeans?

It doesnt include sun java in includes openjdk. Sun java is non-free and by default add/remove doesnt display non-free software so you have to select all available applications rather than canonical ones.

Can you help with this problem?
