it's a normal situation
the update you done is probably including a new kernel version, so you will have as many ubuntu entries as many kernel version installed on your system.
It's recommended to keep old kernel until you are sure that all is going fine with the new one.

Here is a blog post showing how to remove old kernels : http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2007/10/17/remove-ubuntu-kernels-you-dont-need/
be careful

Yes, don't worry about the 2 appearances of Ubuntu in your boot-menu. It's not that you have somehow had Ubuntu installed twice taking double the amount of room! It's just that a core package, the kernel, got a newer version - it's actually an amazingly small package and is often found running mobile phones and even wrist-watches! Most people have quite a lot of these although i think it averages at about 5 or 6 so having just 2 is nothing to worry about :)

With 9.04 if you go up to

System - Administration - Computer Janitor

that usually does quite a lot to flush your system and clear a bit more space by deleting old caches and things you really don't need anymore. There are other ways of doing similar things.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
