What do you mean by free Ubuntu Server? The Download of the Server OS is as free as in Desktop Edition.

You can download it from: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-server

Hi :)

Ubuntu Server Edition doesn't have a desktop gui, unless you install one afterwards, which quite a few people seem to do. it might anyway be better to consider using a more specialist Server OS such as "CentOS" or "Scientific Linux"

Usually the best way to get a free linux Cd is to download the free iso image yourself from the fastest download mirror (usually the mirror nearest to you) and then get really cheap 'write once" or "record once" CD. Usually the ones that are so cheap you can only usually buy them in packs of 10 or more seem better for doing this than more expensive types of CDs which are optimised for normal data rather than acting as boot-disks. This guide is written for Ubuntu but it works just about the same with most other distros as well as Ubuntu

Then try the Cd as a LiveCd

Alternatively (or as well as) you can order an Ubuntu Server Edition Cd as a special request but there is often a quick questions form to fill in when you do that, normal Desktop requests don't need the form

I would send off for the free Cd because it is nice to have an official Cd (or 2) but since it can take 12weeks to arrive i would also download
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-server
and make my own.

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
