Installation and reset error

Asked by Manas Mehta

I installed Ubuntu in my laptop to dual boot it with Windows 10. After removing the installation medium and restarting my laptop, I always see an error:
"spi-nor spi0.0: Software reset failed: -524"
I have done the installation process from scratch for around 5 times now and it always shows the same error. Kindly suggest a solution to this problem.

Does the Ubuntu system work despite these spi-nor message?

My interpretation of bug #2045205 is, that this message can be ignored (and will no longer be shown with some future kernel version).

No. The system moves back to windows.

What exactly happens when you start the computer?
Are you asked which Operating System to boot?
Do you see the grub menu?

Initially I get the grub option to install Ubuntu. I then move forward to install it and complete the installation process without any error. Then after it asks me to "remove the installation medium and press enter". After pressing enter, it shows me the "spi-nor spi0.0: Software reset failed: -524" error.

The "spi-nor spi0.0: Software reset failed: -524" message is known, but is said not to do any harm, see Bug #2045205

What happens if you switch the computer off and start it again, can you boot Ubuntu and what happens?

if I switch the computer off and start it again, it directly enters into Windows without giving me an option to boot into Ubuntu.

Do you see some information on the screen when you boot that tells something like "press Fx for BIOS setup" or "press Fx for selecting the boot device"?
What make and model is your computer system?

When you boot and press F9, what selections do you get?
If you check them one after the other, does one of them lead to Ubuntu?

Usually, I get only 2 options after pressing F9:
1. Windows Boot Manager
2. EFI

None of them leads to Ubuntu

Rarely I also get an additinal option to boot into Ubuntu. But after selecting it, "Selected Boot Device Failed" is seen.

Can you help with this problem?
