Just tried it again and it seems to be back up.
"Executing: gpg --ignore-
gpg: requesting key 951DC1E2 from hkp server keyserver.
gpg: key 951DC1E2: public key "Launchpad PPA for Blueman Development Team" imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)"
thanks for your help.

I was trying to get a key from that server for 1 hour and then used subkeys.pgp.net instead and it worked just fine for me

These are some keyservers that are often used for looking up keys with "gpg --recv-key"
keyserver hkp://subkeys.
keyserver hkp://pgp.mit.edu
keyserver hkp://pool.
keyserver hkp://keys.nayr.net
keyserver http://
keyserver http://
Try them in a browser first to see if they are up.

And down again.
The alternate servers proposed by Snyper82 did fix it for me though...

Still down for me, and no firewall. But other addresses do not work too. What can be the problem then?

i too had a similar problem (trying to install wine on 10.04). i don't have a firewall installed, and none of the key servers listed above worked for me when i tried.
i found the comments at http://
1) download the key from http://
2) imported the key file from "Software Sources > Authentication" tab
3) continued with the installation.

I finally managed to do it with:
sudo gpg --keyserver hkp://keyserver

Im not convinced this is a problem with the keyserver being unavailable, or with firewall permissions.
I'm seeing it while running an ansible play against two vagrant vms which are identical.
Originally, app-infra-1 downloaded the key fine.
It began having problems. I can only guess i interrupted the play during key download and it got corrupted.
However, on subsequent runs wiping app-infra-2 clean the latter vm downloaded the key just fine while app-infra-1 failed with the timeout error in this thread.
Here is some of my debugging effort. Deleting the key didn't seem to work. The key i am trying to download is EEA14886 .
Note that it is not found in the update.
root@app-infra-1:~# apt-key update
gpg: key 437D05B5: "Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <email address hidden>" not changed
gpg: key FBB75451: "Ubuntu CD Image Automatic Signing Key <email address hidden>" not changed

For now, i will just create a new vm, but it would be nice to see this fixed.
