does sending a crash log create a bug report? Or should that be done manually?

Asked by moshh

I'm having a recurring crash with `emacs-gtk` on my system. The crash occurs on startup. I've enabled sending error logs and have done so for each crash, but I'm wondering if I should also file a bug report for the package. If I do file a report, what should I include? The whole `/var/crash_usr*` file regarding the crash.

Emacs functions as expected after the crash however. I can see the systemd unit starting correctly and my emacsclient works as expected; so I'm not entirely sure what is happening.

Sending a crash log does not automatically create a bug report.

If you want to create a bug report, then you best use the command ubuntu-bug.

If you have a crash file, then you can add its path to the command
ubuntu-bug /var/crash_...filename...
or just provide the package name
ubuntu-bug emacs

The ubuntu-bug command is designed to automatically add all information that the developer might need for working on the problem.

thank you! thought there'd be another step. Great to hear that ubuntu-bug streamlines the process.
