Hello,

Go to this page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats and search for how to enable your universe/multiuniverse repositories.
When you have enabled then search for your requested plugins in Synaptic package manager. Now you should find it.

If you would like to install extra video support to play avi, mov, mpeg use the same link.

Solution 2: Probably you are trying to install a file which is not supported by ubuntu like rpm.
Solution 3: Update your system

I hope someway this small post helps you ...

Anyway next time please make a more detailed request because I don't really understand your problem, I mean write down, what kind of package you are trying to install, ex vqcc-gtk.deb in which program ex synaptic, terminal. or how.

Sincerely,

Hunor Bajtalan

Can you give us the specific filetypes you are haing problems with?

TIP: If its an .rpm, do:

sudo apt-get install alien

You will need all the dapper repositories enabled. This program will convert .rpm's to .deb's. To install a .rpm in the same way you would install a .deb, do:

sudo alien -i file.rpm

Where file.rpm is the file in question. You can also get rid of the -i to just convert it to a .deb.

Hope this helps...

May be the files that you've downloaded are corrupted or wrong file type....But I can recommend you to used synaptic package manager to download the files its quite easy to install file in synaptic...if you are using UBUNTU..because some Distribution don't have synaptic package manager...

Hope it will help...

Subscribe to tux magazine.

Simply type:

tux magazine

into google or whatever search engine. In back issues they have explained how to install synaptic package manager.

I haven't the time at the moment, but I will try and find the issue that you need.

Can you help with this problem?
