Hi :)

This guide might help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Antivirus
Most people sem to be using ClamAv rather than Avast. Is there any particular reason for choosing Avast?

I was also wondering if you are trying to install the Avast for Windows or the Avast for Linux? Are you trying to install an "exe" file? Obviously the Avast for Windows will struggle because linux is completely different from Windows - much less viruses to look for and radically different file-structure for a start.

Anyway maybe this guide might help in a more general way
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
