Unable to install Dell BIOS updates

OS: Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
BIOS Version 1.0.0
Firefox Version 3.0.13
Dell has two BIOS updates for my Inspiron 530 computer (1.0.18 and 1.0.2)
When downloaded to my desktop the computer cannot open the BIOS update executable files.
The Problem: Firefox frequently hangs up (will not quit even though the window closes) and I was hoping that the BIOS upgrades would somehow solve the problem, as none of the Firefox upgrades have.

You will need to boot to a DOS boot CD / Floppy and install it there. The BIOS updates will run in windows which you arent running and i would NEVER NEVER NEVER run it via wine. It may damage your system.

You may be able to grab an XP CD and a copy of BartPE which can make a bootable XP CD to desktop but you will need an XP system and an XP CD.

If you visit http://www.bootdisk.com and get a Win98 bootdisk or if you have a windows 98 install CD you can boot to DOS using that.

You can then upgrade the BIOS using that.
