not able to run alien arena 2009 tar.gz

i downloaded alien arena 2009 tar.gz ,now i can`t do anything with it .. the alien arena in add remove only has 4 levels was hopping this one has more. it downloaded with alien arena 2009 tar.gz ,gamershell.url and gh3d.txt . i have read other peoples problems with this but none of them helped me..

ok ! i tried this it did not work.. i am not sure that the file unziped
to the desktop file where i wanted it . my operation system is ubuntu
9.04 , 32bit . ubuntu is installed on full hard drive.no dual boot

Is the "source folder" the one with the "tar.gz" file in it? or the one with the extracted files in it? or is that the same folder?

i made a file in my home folder,then on the desktop i created
archive,then from the archiver i extracted to home folder.
