totem doesn't play youtube videos

Asked by Nitin

i am using kubuntu 9.04 and I installed totem-xine. but when i click on youtube videos, it says the specified file not found. but when i browse youtube in firefox, the same video plays, but there is no sound. i can't listen to sound when i try to listen music files on the webpage. I can hear sound and play music and video files from hard disk though. i've already downloaded kubuntu-restricted-extras, and vlc media player also.

Please help.

Hi :)

Please work through each step in this guide
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
i tend to have non-free (proprietary) components, it hasn't cost me anything yet. Using copy&[paste should make this quite quick and makes sure you have covered all the multimedia basics.

The next step is to use Synaptic to look for "flash player"
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto
While "gnash" and "swfdec-gnome" they both seem to clash with the adobe one. I would recommend the adobe one on it's own for now.

If you are still having troubles with the sound then hopefully soemthing early in one of these 2 guides might help
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting

I thought you might also find this guide helpful for looking up odd things occasionally
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwitchingToUbuntu/FromWindows

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
