Hello,

can you play the dvd with another player ?

Do you have all the restricted formats installed ?, more info here:

I am still having the problem. I am only into Linux for 5 days and am not technically up on these matters. My DVD player worked on Windows XP but not on Linux. I only get a picture and NO sound. The DVD is one I made on a MAC and works on all other DVD players that I have. I am just trying to make it work on my new Linux system.

All the information was on the first link I sent you.
Please follow those steps:

Ensure the relevant repositories are enabled. Click System → Administration → Synaptic Package Manager → Settings → Repositories and then click Add. Check the Community maintained (Universe) and Non-free (Multiverse) boxes. When you close the window, click Reload.

Install the packages. While you could install packages individually using Synaptic, here is one case where any Ubuntu user can save a lot of time by using the command line. Quit out of Synaptic, then click Application → Accessories → Terminal and paste the following command:

sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-pitfdll gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse gxine libxine-main1 libxine-extracodecs ogle ogle-gui

then install the medibuntu repository, more info here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu?action=show#head-7486ed038a9becc1dff10a24cc07a38a00d70e9f

then type this in a terminal:
sudo apt-get install libdvdread3 libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdcss2

Also when asking a question, you should say that you are using the Dapper (6.06) version of Ubuntu (and not the more recent Feisty 7.04)

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask fritzed for more information if necessary.
