why must register?

i believe you answered your own question, if you mean here on LaunchPad then its so you can do what we are doing, asking and answering questions, why wouldnt you need to register?

Lol, i think a full list of the advantages of registering with Launchpad would be a long list and the advantages to an individual depends on what use one wants to make of Ubuntu anyway. There are a lot of other sites that ask for registration but launchpad, bugzilla & linuxquestions are the main official ones worth signing up for to get help with Ubuntu.

I hope this helps! Please let us know who is asking you to register with them and maybe we could help suggest whether it's a good idea or whether you need to or not.
