Help! Major Problem I uninstalled Gnome Power Manager because it had a bug and now when i reboot all i get is blank screen.

I uninstalled gnome power manager because it wasnt working properly. But when i rebooted i got no desktop but just a blank screen. The only reason i was able to get to launchpad is that i hit every button on my keyboard and all F#s and when i hit "print screen" the print screen presented a dialogue box and i hit help and when i got yelp i clicked on get help onjline and it opened a web page and i was able to get to launchpad some how. Whew! but now i need to know what i did wrong and how to correct it.

I cant open any other programs except launchpad by my web browser Firefox. No mail program [evolution]

Can someone pls. tell me how to re-install gnome power manager from Terminal?

when i reboot and stop the booting process at one of the "recovery' lines and hit enter it goes into Terminal like phase and i get the prompt that i get in Terminal. So if i can get there again what commands do i use to reinstall GPM or gnome power manager?

OK, now i was able to get my mail program open by clicking on 'read mail' under 'tools'.

Hello,

You should be careful when removing packages.
When you removed gnome-power-manager, it also removed gnome-session and ubuntu-desktop
(because gnome-power-manager is a dependency of gnome-session and gnome-session is a dependency of ubuntu-desktop)

to solve this, go to a terminal with <CTRL><ALT>F2
Enter your login and password
then type this:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop

Ok, thank yo very much! The only thing though that when i typed what
you said, it said i had to be Superuser in order to command reboot. So
i just hit the restart button anyway and it booted up ok with desktop.
All ok now.
