Do you see System-->Administration-->Computer Janitor?

Or empty your Trash.

During bootup key pressing the Esc key repeatedly. Hopefully one time you press it you will get to a menu with lots of options for booting into Ubuntu. The 2nd option should say "recovery mode" near the end of it's line. Select the one with "recovery mode" and it should give you a disturbingly blue screen with a menu, scroll down to "Clear some space", perhaps also do "Fix broken packages" and then scroll back to the top to select "Resume normal boot"

Hopefully that helps?
Good luck and regards from
Tom :)
