can't install Mysql without linux threads

Asked by Mike

I get the following error message when installing MySQL:

configure: error: This is a linux system and Linuxthreads was not
found. On linux Linuxthreads should be used. So install Linuxthreads
(or a new glibc) and try again. See the Installation chapter in the
Reference Manual.

You could try this workaround solution for that issue:

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=19785

But you should not be compiling from source, as the mysql binaries are available in the Ubuntu repositories.

It is a much better idea to follow these installation instructions:

https://help.ubuntu.com/9.04/serverguide/C/mysql.html

Mark,
Thanks for the help. I am up and running on Mysql.
It's just a personal project. Trying to set up a LAMP stack.

Thanks for the help.
I used a previous response to solve the issue.
Good to know that there is so much technical support out there though.

Lol, right person credited with giving the right answer but the wrong answer highlighted. I think it's easy for people to work out which is the right answer from this though and at least the credit goes to the right place :) It takes a little while to get used to Launchpad so i think Mike has done pretty well and it's all looking good :)))

I just wanted an excuse to pass these 2 links on to Mike

Congrats and regards to Mike (and Mark) from
