update of kernel 2.6.28.15 failure

Asked by Graham Bartlett

A couple of days ago the patch for new kernel 2.6.28.15 arrived and I clicked install as usual. I have never had problems before with update manager and although it seemed to load ok - I saw no obvious errors - the new kernel is not in /boot as you would find it and the menu.lst in /boot/grub has not been updated either. I note that a directory under /usr/src exists showing kernel 2.6.28.15 information ! Is this a known problem or not ? I cant find logs to show the issue either ?
Thanks for any suggestions forthcoming ! This is for ubuntu 9.04 by the way !

I would open Synaptic and check if "linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic" is installed. Then if it's installed, I would probably reinstall it. If it's not installed, I would try to install it and look for error messages.

Hi, I found out that synaptic can be used to install kernel updates !!
I wasn't aware that it could be used for that ! It worked OK. It
seems I was focused on why update manager failed and could find no logs
that were obvious anyway. I guess we still dont know why it failed to
update in the first place. I will check out what files you need and
forward them. ITs up to you whether you want to keep that bug open or not.

Thanks
Regards
Graham
