Devede not enough diskspace availible

Asked by PeeJay

Hello,

wenn I start Devede, with a series of VOB's there is an error which says not enough free diskspace. There is 250 GB free disk space? The swap however is only 2,6 GB in size. Can you help me with this problem? Or I do something wrong although i don't know what.

Regards

Peter

I'm not familiar with that specific program but are the VOBs already on a hard drive or are you trying to rip them? If ripping and getting that error check to see what directory or partition it is trying to save to. I don't think your swap will cause that error.

If you are trying to burn the VOBs to a DVD make sure they don't add up to more than 4.7 GB (for a single layer disc) or 8.5 GB for a dual layer (you will also need a burner that supports dual layer otherwise it will probably only see 4.7 GB if it works at all).

If that doesn't help, can you provide a bit more info about what steps you took to get the error? Thanks.

Those VOB's are alredy on the Hard-Drive. I was just using it for creating an Iso format disk ready to burn. an added up its only 3,9 GB big. The program says not enough space to make a DVD tree stucture.

There should be an option where you can set the location of the output iso file. What is that currently set to? Do you have more than one partition on your system? Also, can you open a terminal and tell me the output from

df -h

Thanks.

Well, it looks like you have one large partition with plenty of free space. Provided devdde is set up to output the iso to /dev/sda1 or /home/somefolder you should have space to work. My suspicion is that it's trying to save the output elsewhere, but I'll have to install devede first and play around a bit to check that assumption. Unfortunately, my laptop is about to die and i don't have power with me. I'll have to do this later when I get home. In the meantime, see if you can verify that's it's actually set to output to your main hard drive.

Ok, did a bit of research. According to this page

http://www.rastersoft.com/programas/devede.html

it seems there is a bug in devede that makes it not work well in feisty. There is a "patch" but it looks like a reversion to the edgy package. Is there any reason you are using this particular app? If you just want to burn a DVD there are probably a dozen other apps out there - some better, some worse.

If you already have a video_ts folder with vob files in it and just want to burn them to a DVD, take a look at k3b. It's a kde app but will work in gnome. When you open it choose file -> new project and then new video DVD project. Add the files and then burn. That should do it.

If not, reopen the question and we can explore other options.

Can you help with this problem?
