whenever i restart or shutdown ubuntu 8.10 the ethernet is going down

if i restart or shutdown my machine in ubuntu 8.10 my ethernet is going down so again i am manaully making it up by giving command ifup eth0 or sudo ifup eth0 so even when i restart or shutdown my system i must not give it manually ifup command it should automatically come up .so how to resolve this.

When you establish connection type in terminal

sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

That should do.
