Why is only PackageKit 0.4.8 available?

Asked by Matthias Klumpp

Kubuntu ships an old PackageKit-Version, 0.4.8. Why is only the latest API/ABI stable version used, while other dustributions like Fedora or openSUSE always use the newest PackageKit-Version (0.5.1)?

There is often no need for newer versions if the older one has no security issues and is working properly.

But you are right... Ask the devs themselfs:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/packagekit
(you will find the core-devs-mailti on the right side on that page.)
And please give some feedback here if there is an answer by them.

Okay, I have the answer: All newer PackageKit versions need a higher PolicyKit version.
But there is no PolicyKit-KDE frontend available for the newest version. Because at time only Kubuntu has full PackageKit-integration, it would be bad for all KDE users because they can't use PackageKit as comfortable as now.
