netbeans install problem

Asked by Greg McKay

I am having a problem with Java JDK and netbeans installation
The Java JDK issue is laid out in this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=468767
I have not been able to resolve the above issue so I took a different approach and installed "netbeans" in synaptic. As instructed I pre downloaded the appropriate file from" netbeans" to /temp and I think I successfully gave netbeans folder root ownership.Synaptic says it is installed but if I run it it keeps telling me to download the file or abort.
"Netbeans is in the /temp file and I can make it run fine if I go into /temp/netbeans/bin/ and double click the icon. How do I make this work in a simpler manner i.e. menu listing.
The reason I need to clean this issue up is I am trying to drag myself out of the dark ages by enrolling in an online IT degree. Java programming is a required unit and I need the tools.
 Hoping someone can help,
                                               Cheers Greg

thanks for the response Waleed.I think after reviewing the links you sent me I am probably too much of a newbie to fiddle with "netbeans" install.I still don't feel it will install smoothly from synaptic but I did follow up on "Eclipse" and it installed as smooth as silk without any peripheral issues beyond my current abilities. It also appears that it will meet all my requirements and I think it looks like a better app.
So again I have progressed on my very steep learning curve in the world of Ubuntu. Thanks again for the support.Perhaps one day I will be proficient enough to give something back.
                               Cheers,
                                           Greg
