How to install Ubuntu-9.04 on VMware player

Asked by Arun

I have downloaded Ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso from http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and tried to get installed on VMWare player.

When I installed ubuntu 7.4 or 7.10 on VMWare player, I simply selected by locating vmx file and installed it.

But Ubuntu-9.04 is having installer. So i clicked on exe file to install but it again downloads ubuntu-9.04 of amd version.

Please let me know how do I install ubuntu 9.04 on VMWare player.

I have always used VMWare Player with VMWare Appliances e.g. http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/220303

Clarification: No need to use the ISO, simply download the file on the page that arochester linked to and you'll get a VMWare appliance which has it installed already.

Alternatively, you can 'boot' an empty VM with the ISO attached or give it CD-ROM access, and use its inbuilt bios to load the CD, from which you can run the installer.

The .exe on the Ubuntu CD is the windows autorunner, and when you choose "install inside Windows", which it soundls like you did, it runs Wubi, which is a way of installing Ubuntu without repartitiong but that still requires a reboot to change OS's.
