I'm running v8.10 an upgraded to v9.04 online, it wont boot up says uuid doesn't exist

Asked by Liezl

When I restarted the computer after doing upgrade, it runs the logo screen an then stops saying that the uuid doesn't exist also something about Busybox an at the end initramfs...amd that's where i'm stuck!
I have data an emails that I possibly cant lose, is there anyway of going back to v8.10 or getting a uuid that does exist because it looks like it lost the drivers, I need serious help, I can't do any work!
WhaT i've done now, just to get to the site is stick the disc in an run Ubuntu without affecting my computer.
Or can someone help me back up all my stuff while i'm on this spook program???
Urgent assistance needed......

HI :)

Have you got an Ubuntu Cd? Almost any linux Cd would be good for this but Ubuntu's might be more familiar. Just boot up from the Cd to the menu with "Try Ubuntu without changes to this machine", if you don't get that menu then this guide might help
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootFromCD
Choosing the "Try Ubuntu ... " option should get you to a working desktop which we call a "LiveCd session", if it works ;) Most versions of linux have this feature although they don't all have such a fancy menu. Ubuntu's LiveCd has firefox on the top taskbar and should have worked out your internet connection so having got a LiveCd session working you should be able to surf around and check that Ubuntu is going to work easily on the machine. More to the point you will find that the "Places" menu gives you access to all your files. Also if you let me know when you get this working then we can work at fixing your grub-boot-loader as per these guidelines
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot#Recovering%20GRUB%20after%20reinstalling%20Windows

Good luck and regards from
Tom :)

I just can't lose all the data an emails I had whilst running v8.10, I am completely clueless when it comes to computers an programmes.... an I think this booting problem happened when I wanted to upgrade to v9.04, after I restarted my computer it wouldn't go any further than that DOS screen informing me that the "uuid doesn't exist" i really hope you can help me recover an get my laptop running fine again without losing any of my information......
