Sounds like a bug.I'd log a bug. Is your current kernel not working for you? Why are you installing it with:

sudo aptitude install linux-image-2.6.28-14-generic

well ubuntu propose me the update, i install with update manger, and have the problem, this was yesterday.

today i install another program and it says this message.

i tried to unistall and reinstall, but nothing change.

And finaly i use this command only to show the message to post it, because i can't copy from update manager console

try:

sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get update; sudo depmod -a; sudo apt-get -f install

if ubuntu proposes you can update you don't have to specify every update you want to get, you simply run:

sudo apt-get upgrade

If there were 30 updates would you specify each individual package for update in the same manner? Highly unlikely and massively unfeasible.

I never install it one by one, i use update manager, i write it only to show the error message, who came also when i install geany, so i only write the first package i remember.

i use the line you gived me, same problem:

sudo apt-get clean; sudo apt-get update; sudo depmod -a; sudo apt-get -f install

from the error it seems the nvidia modules are getting in the way. I would log a bug though.I have websearched for:

No apport report written because MaxReports is reached already

and it comes up with a lot of stuff in any search engine i try. I suggest you back it out with:

sudo apt-get --purge remove linux-image-2.6.28-14-generic; sudo apt-get --purge autoremove

that should get the kernel out.

Is the current kernel not working for you?

I get the same error message (as the first thread)

No solutions suggested on the forums seem to work at the moment. It's cramping my app installs and installs from the terminal!

I was briefly having issues with /var/cache/archives/lock but got rid of that and am now back to error 1 every time I try to install anything.

suggestions of alternating 'sudo apt-get clean/update' and 'sudo apt-get -f install' haven't worked. All very frustrating! Must be a common problem as I've only had the package a day! I seem to be suffering all of the standard problems (JRE installing in Open Office options is bloody impossible!)

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

E: linux-image-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
