No internet connection

Asked by dustbindiva

Have a computer that Ubuntu was installed. I can open the Firefox browser window, but cannot connect to internet. I get error message about the server but called my ISP and they have no support for Linux-based OS. I switched to my windows system and have no problem with connection. I am using a cable modem broadband connection with Comcast Cable. Comcast told me they have no support for Linux-based OS,only Mac or Windows. I am posting on line right now using my windows OS computer, so Comcast is not the problem. I am new to Ubuntu and followed the directions on the menu to connect. Maybe I don't have the technical expertise to connect using Ubuntu. Any help out there?

As with Traci, we will need to figure out if it is something to do with your router or Ubuntu. Please type this into your terminal "ping 192.168.0.1 -c 5" (without the quotation marks) and tell us the results. If you do want to use the terminal, I will show you the graphical way of doing it.

Can you help with this problem?
