wont reboot after update

just installed latest updates on my laptop,tried to reboot and are getting this message-
[Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> _
pressing tab gives list of commands that dont seem to help and i dont know what to do.
everything was fine before i ran update.
how do i get it to boot? simple instructions please as i'm still learning,

Sounds like grub is at fault. I suggest you reinstall it from live cd:
