Could not download all repository indexes

Asked by benny

Is it mean, I put wrong cd ubuntu on disk?
what exactly repository mean?

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Set '#' in the line

'deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04.3 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386 (20090713.1)]/ hardy main restricted'
to this

'#deb cdrom:[Ubuntu 8.04.3 _Hardy Heron_ - Release i386 (20090713.1)]/ hardy main restricted'

and reload again. Should work fine now.

At an online system, you should not need the cd entry.

I have a similar problem on 9.10. Im trying to upgrade to 10.04.2 LTS but I keep getting the message that I cannot download release notes, check internet connection. So I use check in update manager as the Ubuntu help says and it comes back with "Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/olmecs/ppa/ubuntu/dists/karmic/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 Not Found".
I've had Ubuntu for a while now and I originally installed it with SD or CD and also have been using it as dual boot but with windows grub error since install. I've backed up my data and I want to completely wipe the hard drive and start again preferably with the latest release. Is there a way I can do this without an XP disk?
Thanks

I used ubuntu 10, the synaptics, repository always get problem to update. When repository -> ubuntu software -> and tick "Canonical-supported open Source software (main)" -> then close -> and then reload. After reload, I found the problem shown: the title: Could not download all repository indexes. the content: Failed to fetch http://archive.ubuntu.com/dists/maverick/binary-i386/Packages.gz 404 No Found.
I can search Internet. It may not be proxy problem. Only the problem is the synaptics and repository cannot update the software. It seems the synaptics cannot connect to Internet.
Below is my /etc/apt/sources.list content.

Anyone will have any good comments and Opinion to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
